What is Dichroic Glass?Originally created by NASA for use in satellite reflectors, dichroic glass is made by depositing microscopic layers of metallic oxides onto a glass sheet. Using intense heat, this sheet is then fused with additional layers of glass to create reflective colors and brilliance within the finished piece. Because the layers of metallic oxide are only millionths of an inch thick, they reflect and transmit light differently, depending on the angle light strikes the piece. Natural variations in these layers create an array of changing shades and highlights as you move. ~ learn more about dichroic glass on Wikipedia ~ click here to go back to the Dichroic Glass collection
